About Max Comley Racing
Max grew up in Cheltenham and developed a passion for racing from an early age. Although not from a racing family, he was determined to build a career in the sport.
On leaving school, Max joined Kim Bailey full time, with ambitions of becoming a point-to-point jockey. He rode for four seasons with success, but standing at 6ft 5in, maintaining riding weight became increasingly difficult. Recognising where his future lay, Max made the decision to retire from the saddle and establish Comley Racing Ltd.
Max began training at a small farm in Rendcomb, handling a select team of point-to-pointers and quickly earning an impressive strike rate. As results continued to improve, the yard soon outgrew its original base, prompting a move to Naunton where the business expanded further.
The 2023/24 season proved to be a breakthrough year. The yard led the National Championship until April and ultimately finished third, recording an outstanding 37% winners-to-runners strike rate. With winners across the country and four prestigious classics — including three consecutive renewals of the Lord Ashton of Hyde Cup and the 2024 Grimthorpe Cup — Max firmly established himself as one of the leading trainers in the point-to-point sphere.
After five successful seasons, Max took out a full training licence in November 2024, marking the next exciting step in the yard’s progression.
Comley Racing Ltd is based at The Beeches Farm in Sutton Veny, Wiltshire — a state-of-the-art 85 horse capacity training facility steeped in racing history. Previously home to Grade 1 winners over jumps and Group winners on the Flat, the yard provides an exceptional environment for National Hunt horses to thrive.
It offers the ideal setting for Max to continue growing the business, develop each horse to its full potential, and provide owners with an enjoyable and rewarding racing experience
As one of the youngest trainers in the country, Max combines ambition, professionalism and a genuine passion for the sport. The journey is only just beginning — and owners are invited to be part of an exciting future.
