About Max Comley Racing

Max grew up in Cheltenham, where a passion for racing was sparked from an early age. Although he was not born into a racing family, he was determined to forge a career in the sport.

After leaving school, Max joined Cheltenham based trainer, Kim Bailey full-time with the ambition of becoming a successful point-to-point jockey. He rode for four seasons, enjoying plenty of success, but at 6ft 5in, maintaining riding weight became increasingly challenging. Recognising where his long-term future lay, he made the decision to step away from the saddle and establish Max Comley Racing.

Starting from a small farm in Rendcomb, Max trained a select team of point-to-pointers and quickly built a reputation for producing consistent results, achieving an impressive strike rate. As the yard continued to grow, it outgrew its original base, leading to a move to Naunton where the operation expanded further.

The 2023/24 season marked a major milestone. The yard led the National Championship until April before ultimately finishing third, recording an outstanding 37% winners-to-runners strike rate. Success came at some of the country’s leading point-to-point meetings, with four prestigious Classic victories, including three consecutive renewals of the Lord Ashton of Hyde Cup and the 2024 Grimthorpe Cup. These achievements firmly established Max as one of the country’s leading point-to-point trainers.

Following five highly successful seasons in the point-to-point ranks, Max was granted a full training licence in November 2024, marking the next exciting chapter in the yard’s development.

Today, Comley Racing Ltd is based at The Beeches Farm in Sutton Veny, Wiltshire—an outstanding, state-of-the-art training establishment with capacity for 85 horses. Steeped in racing history, the yard has previously been home to Grade 1-winning National Hunt horses and Group-winning Flat performers, providing an exceptional environment in which horses can thrive.

The facilities offer the perfect platform for Max to continue developing the business, nurturing every horse to fulfil its potential, and providing owners with a professional, enjoyable and rewarding racing experience.

As one of Britain’s youngest racehorse trainers, Max combines ambition, professionalism and an unwavering passion for the sport. With a proven record of success and exciting plans for the future, the journey is only just beginning—and owners are invited to be part of it.
