FAQ
How often can I visit my horse?
As much as you like. We make every effort to make you feel as welcome as possible, see your horse on the gallops and show you around the yard.
If my horse wins, can I sell for a profit?
Yes, but will you want to… there’s lots of ways to sell a horse. Sales, privately or possibly to stay in the yard.
What happens when my horse retires from racing?
There are many different career paths for ex racehorses and we always ensure our horses go to responsible homes once they’re finished their racing career. Point to point, ROR, team chasing or even just a happy hack. The list is endless for possibilities for ex racehorses. Please visit our ‘Where are they Now?’ Page for previous rehoming stories from ex MCR horses.
Can I bring friends and family to see my horse?
Of course, the more the merrier. Racehorse ownership is all about bringing people together and enjoying your racehorse. The journey to the races is just as exciting as the race itself.
Why should I buy a horse at Max Comley Racing?
As a young, enthusiastic, growing yard, you’re not only investing in a horse, but also in the future of racing. You’ll always be looked after and given honest advice. Your horse will receive the best care and as an owner, you will always feel satisfied with the service we provide to you and your horse.
What horse should I buy?
If you’re looking at buying a horse, I would always suggest to approach us first so we can find a horse that will hopefully suit what you’re looking for as an owner. People own horses for many different reasons: for days out, invest with the intention to sell for profit, or to hopefully win the gold cup! With our bespoke approach, we can find the most suitable horse to fit your budget.
Will my horse run locally?
Yes, we always try to keep them local, but we are also keen to travel if there looks to be a winnable opportunity for your horse. It’s always a good excuse to explore the country and visit the amazing, unique racecourses.
Can I name my horse?
Yes. If you buy a un named horse, you get the opportunity to name them whatever you like (within reason). If your horse has already got a name, you can’t change it.
How can I get involved?
We cater for all types of ownership, from sole owners to syndicates. We have ownership packages for most people to fit your racing dreams and suit your budget. Please take a look at the ‘How Ownership works’ page for more details.
Do I get updates?
Yes! Max will update you at least once a week (usually more) with your horses progress, videos on the gallops and their day to day life. You’ll also be kept upto date with any races and plans for your horse. You’re also always welcome to the yard to see your horses progress and to feed them plenty of carrots!
Can I make my own syndicate?
Yes definitely! Spread the enjoyments and cost of a racehorse between friends, family, colleagues or even just like minded strangers (that turn into friends!). We can dilute shares down to as small as you wish – as long as you have enough people to fill the syndicate.
I don’t have a horse, can I visit the yard?
Yes, give Max a call or email and arrange a visit. We always encourage people to see the behind the scenes of the yard and we’re incredibly proud of what we do and the care the horses get. To get more frequent access, why not buy a small share in a horse? Max can guide you through ownership options to suit all needs and budgets.
