Blog

Monday 10th February

A busy few weeks for the team and apologies for not posting a blog last week.

Land Girls Luck ran a brilliant race at Newcastle to finish 3rd by a length. It looked the stronger division on the 2 bumpers and she’s a horse with a big future. Owners Richard Bailey and Stephen Mattick were very well looked after by Newcastle Racecourse! This race was on the All Weather part of the track at Newcastle and what a brilliant initiative from them. A lovely surface and perfect for young horses which haven’t had their ground this season.

Rockadenn made his racecourse reappearance after 19 months off the track at Haydock. He ran a nice race, travelled into it well and looked like hell improve for the run… slightly ring rusty but he’s still enthusiastic as ever. A nice ride by Tom Bellamy for SW Racing.

Aureus ran in the bumper at Fontwell but with relentless rain throughout the day, the ground was very hard work and David Bass looked after him. He will improve with time for owner/breeder Roger and Yvonne Allsop.

Lady Fortune made a pleasing debut over hurdles at Southwell for BDR Syndicates. She travelled and jumped well throughout the race and will come on for a nice positive experience.

Pay The Tab was disappointing we will find him a home away from racing.

Our small point to point team has continued to do us proud….

A impressive performance from Boss Man Fred at Brocklesby point to point on Saturday winning by 23 lengths. BMF hasn’t been an easy horse to train and the Cotswold Stars Syndicate have been patient with him… they have been rewarded!

We had aimed to run Fred in early December but with limited opportunities for him and drying ground, we had to wait and find the right race for him. We had aimed him for The Lord Ashton Of Hyde cup at Cocklebarrow but it’s a race which always favours horses that have had a run that season. Time was ticking and we took him to Friars Haugh in the 3m4 race up on the Scottish Borders. The track didn’t suit but he came on for the run like we had planned.

We followed up by taking him to Cocklebarrow on 26th Jan where he won in good style and winning the first Classic point to point of the season and the third year in a row we’ve won this prestigious race.

We also ran Jullou De Grissay at Cocklebarrow in January where he improved again to win impressively by 20 lengths under James King. A big day out for owners Katie and Tim Sunderland, Helen and Alan Mobley.

We welcomed Jake and Caroline Exelby to the yard to show them around and discuss the transition of the yard this season and the future of MCR for their article ‘Trainer Talk’. Elen discussed the point to pointers while I discussed the under rules horses. Jake always writes brilliant articles for Go Pointing and we will post the article in our ‘News’ section once it is published.

A few runners this week.

Just Her Type heads to Lingfield tomorrow to try to go one better than last time where she finished 2nd by a short head. David Bass rides.

Trudie Glen plans to run at Hereford on Wednesday. Liam Harrison rides.

Lady fortune holds an entry at Fakenham on Friday.

In other news, I’m heading to southern Ireland today to look at some young horses which have recently ran in Irish point to points. If you would be interested in an exciting young horse to have in training at MCR, please get in touch… superstars of the future? 07972922661

Have a great week.
