A good week. 2 winners and horses are running well.
Bebside Banter was a joy to watch under Freddie Mitchell and loves his racing. He made all from the front, jumped like a stag and didn’t see another rival. He appears to be a better horse over fences and his exuberant jumping style is a joy to watch. Worcester have done a fantastic job on the ground through a difficult summer and all credit goes to Izzy Mangan and her team. Summer racing can be difficult to find safe jumping ground but Worcester have provided it even during the driest patches. It makes a trainers job much easier if you can trust the going description! A brilliant day for all the members of The B-Sides syndicate. Worcester looked after us well with plenty of Champagne followed by celebrations long into the night at Montpellier wine bar.
Only One Blue made her yard debut at Sedgefield on Sunday in the juvenile hurdle under Tom Broughton. She was rather green but her class pulled through and she won well in the end. Tom gave her a sympathetic ride and she’s a exciting 3yo for the season ahead. Great to give Charles Noell ands Helen Byrd another winner and of course, improving her prospects as a broodmare further down the line.
No Guarantee was as consistent as ever finishing 3rd at Ffos Las under champion jockey Sean Bowen.
Goodbye Mick ran a career best finishing 4th at Huntingdon last week too. He travelled and jumped well under a nice ride by David Bass and will be back in the winners enclosure soon.
Land Girls Luck ran another solid race to finish 3rd at Huntingdon. She’s a rather incredible horse really and amazing she won over 2 miles in April and now looks like a thorough stayer finishing strongly over 3 and a quarter miles. She will now go for a well deserved break and have a good winter on holiday. Richard Bailey and Stephen Mattick have had a great time with such a genuine and consistent horse. She thrives off her racing and has ran 13 times since February, winning 3 races, finished placed 10 times and earning just over £19,000 in prize money. We’re already looking forward to next spring/summer with her!
Just Her Type made her seasonal reappearance at Chepstow last week. She travelled and jumped well but just got tired before the last and finished a creditable 6th. Nico De Boinville looked after her and she will improve a lot for the run.
Leading Lion also ran on Saturday at Stratford and was going well before picking up a nasty injury and Freddie Mitchell pulled him up. The vets on course did a tremendous job to look after him and get him home safely. Leading Lion will now be retired and have a good home away from racing once he recovers. Unfortunately injuries are a risk in any sport and we are so lucky to have a great network of vets on the racecourse and also at the yard to ensure horses get the best possible care.
Moving on,
Only a couple of entries this week.
Goodbye Mick is declared at Exeter tomorrow and their ground inspection has passed which is great news.
Just Her Type also holds an entry at Fontwell on Thursday.
Worcester Racecourse host their final fixture of the season on Wednesday and open up their gates to schoolers on Thursday morning. A great incentive from the always proactive Ben Atkins who has been organising the schooling days which are fantastic for our young horses to get the best education possible before running in public. The irish have been doing schooling races for years so hopefully we’re finally catching up with them!
Have a great week,
Max
