Land Girls Luck wins again… and quite possibly her best win to date. She took a big step forward from Southwell to win comfortably under 5lb claimer Freddie Mitchell. She’s been an absolutely cracking horse for us for us so far and always runs her race. She returned to Bangor 2 weeks later and finished a gallant 2nd. She’s ran 11 times in her life and only finished out of the placings 3 times.

Since our last blog, the horses have been running well:

No Guarantee ran a career best on his first run for us finishing a close 3rd at Stratford under Liam Harrison. The handicapper has put him up 14lbs for that run!

Jullou De Grissay was painfully close at Market Rasen finishing 2nd in a photo finish. He rallied after jumping the last hurdle and just got denied.

Bebside Banter made his debut for us and ran well for a long way before getting tired. He will improve for the run. 1 share left in this fun summer horse!

Gallant Geronimo ran better than the result would suggest at Newton Abbot under owner/rider Aimee Jones. Aimee is learning all the time and Gallant Geronmo has had a good consistent first season with us and is now having a good break.

Kaproyale also ran well after a small lay off and blew the cobwebs away. Kaproyale got a nasty cut after Stratford in March which put him on the back burner but thanks to the excellent work from our vets at Summerhill, the cut healed up well and he’s 100% after his run the other day.

Au Fleuron looked after Aimee Jones at Worcester and will now head for a wind operation and a good break

Pretty Punctual was running a nice race for a long way but didn’t have the legs to be competitive. Shell now be retired and find a nice home away from racing.

And finally, This Sway ran well for a long way at Worcester but the drying ground didn’t suit him and he was caught for speed. He’s on a holiday now and will be good fun in the winter.

Speaking of ground, still no substantial rain. Our last substantial rain shower was the 6th June… 38 days ago! Farmers are having a disaster with their harvest, nothing is growing and that will only push prices of hay and straw up for next year and i’m sure British products in supermarkets will rise too. Racecourses can’t get any water into the ground and are getting the inevitable wrath from trainers looking for safe ground. I was having a conversation with Izzy Mangan who is the new clerk of the course at Worcester. They stopped watering an hour before the first race and the ground turned from good to good to firm by the time racing started. Theres nothing more they can do but trainers love to blame someone and unfortunately the clerks of the courses are usually on the receiving end. A job no one would want to do! On a positive note, we are forecast rain.

In these hot temperatures, everyone is concerned for horse welfare, and rightfully so. The racecourse staff have been doing a brilliant job on these hot days to cool off horses post race. Big fans which blow cool air and mist at the horses pre and post race, staff with an endless supply of water buckets to throw over all the runners, shaded areas to walk off horses, and plenty of vet support to keep an eye on them all. Brilliant to see for horse welfare.

We have a few runners this week:

Kaproyale and Jullou De Grissay head to Worcester on Thursday

No Guarantee holds entries at Stratford, Newton Abbot and Cartmel

Land Girls Luck is entered Saturday at Market Rasen

Bebside Banter is entered at Worcester but is unlikely to be declared

A few of the winter horses have come back in and we’re all looking forward to the season ahead!

Have a good week,

Max
