September is upon us and it feels very Autumnal very quickly. We had some welcome rain last week which has certainly made the grass grow and everything has turned green again rather than a shade of yellow! It has been a tough summer for trainers, farmers and anyone working with animals or crops with the lack of rain. Nothing has grown, the harvest is down and hay and food prices will certainly go up. One of our local farmers has expressed his concern of supplying haylage to this area but is 50% down on last year.
The horses have been running well.
Jullou De Grissay improved again to win at Worcester comfortably under James King. A positive ride and brilliant to get Katie and Tim Sunderland, Alan and Helen Mobley another nice winner. We celebrated well! Jullou De Grissay, along with other horses in the yard, has been on a range of supplements supplied by Charmaine O’Neill at Ark Equine. A range that is gaining momentum in the racing industry and certainlyu seems to be working for Jullou De Grissay!
Goodbye Mick ran another nice race to finish 4th at Worcester under David Bass for The Green Army syndicate.
Bebside Banter ran a good race to finish 3rd on the same card under Freddie Mitchell for a new syndicate in the yard called The B-Sides Syndicate hosted by Louis Gill.
Kaproyale was disappointing and has gone home for a good break. He has had a long year and a rather stop-start season after picking up a nasty cut at Stratford in March. He will have a good holiday and Katie Sunderland, who absolutely adores him, will get him back in good shape.
No Guarantee continued being ever consistent by coming 3rd at Newton Abbot, only beaten 2 lengths and is knocking on the door to break his maiden tag! Freddie Mitchell rode for SW Racing
Just Jenson made his racecourse debut and is a chaser in the making.
Land Girls Luck hated the rain softened ground at Worcester and Dear Dot has decided shes not a racehorse and will find a lovely home as a riding horse.
Bebside Banter ran again yesterday at Fontwell and bumped into a well handicapped horse on ground that was probably too lively for him.
Fontwell isn’t my favourite course, but they have worked hard to ensure the owners experience is very good. A lovely old house is the owners and trainers restaurant, along with a private box in the grandstand for viewing. Louise Daly was also front of house checking in on trainers to ensure their owners have been well looked after. Top marks for Fontwell. Out thoughts go out to David Noonan who suffered a nasty accident when getting kicked by a horse at the start and looked to have suffered a broken leg… hopefully he makes a speedy recovery.
Only 1 runner this week…
Jullou De Grissay heads to Newton Abbot on Tuesday to hopefully back up his win 2 weeks ago. A step up in grade but hopefully he runs another big race. James King rides
in other news, a big week fo racing this week. Racing goes on strike on Wednesday against the Racing Tax in the ‘Axe The Racing Tax’ campaign. If the governments proposal goes through then horse racing bets will be charged at 15% to put them in line with games of chance and casinos at 21% which would be disastrous for the sport and cost the industry £330 million, which would be putting 2752 jobs at risk and inevitably making the training of racehorses harder than it already is, racecourses would struggle, BHA and many many others!
Finally, a couple of new faces have joined the MCR team. Evan Loughnan and Reo Painting join our team and we wish them the very best.
Have a great week.
